- The contract: Much of Sebastian's role and driving force is the Faustian contract that bounded him to Ciel Phantomhive as his servant. The deal is for Sebastian to help Ciel obtain his revenge after the mysterious murder and deaths of his parents. Sebastian was summoned through a ritual by devil worshippers. Unfortunately, the plan did not go as intended and terribly went wrong on that summoning night. Everyone was killed except Ciel as Sebastian heard his desperate prayer due to the nature of the sacrifice. He and Ciel made an agreement, a contract and there are three clauses:
1. To protect and never betray Ciel.
2. To never disobey his orders.
3. To never lie.
Those three are absolute as Ciel puts them in place to ensure the demon's loyalty and truthfulness as Ciel trusts absolutely trusts no one and he trusts the demon the least. The first clause ensures that Ciel can never die before he obtains his revenge. The second, the demon is to obey his orders to ensure absolute obedience, no matter how unpleasant or dangerous the task is. And the third is to never lie and enforces Sebastian, to tell the truth. Sebastian agree to these terms and thus, with the agreement, the road to hell is paved with the good and worst of intentions
- Obnoxious perfectionist butler: Driven by overachieving butler aesthetics and being a perfect servant, one needs skills that demand to be "One hell of a butler" for the Phantomhive Household. Sebastian has his sense of professionalism, he's punctual, driven by work ethics, working his schedule like clockwork while managing the staff and household. Because of his efficiency, knowledge on different subjects from knowing everything including mastering multi-languages and excels at completing multiple jobs, that makes him an obnoxious perfectionist and professional. He is truly dedicated to his job. He's ridiculous enough that he'll dig up for deets in a landfill of rubbish if it takes him all night
- Calm and quick learner: He's distant, aloof, calm and serene during any given situation and crisis. In fact, if somebody is sad or miserable, he either revels in their torment with a smile and takes delight in their misery and punish them with his know-it-all correctness. It's nothing personal, but the demon is incapable of love, but he can appear to be at least kind and amicable as a part of his butler persona.
- Observant: Sebastian is highly intelligent, analytical, driven more by logic and rational reason, with a keen eye for details, and this ability is helpful and an absolute must for helping solve the mysteries when Ciel sent him out on a mission.
- Manipulative for a cause: He appears kind, polite, and always smiling, but he is able to exploit his opponents' weakness to find information and seek what benefits him and his master. He has no problem seducing others as a means to an end, as he believes he has the knowledge of knowing everything that is driven behind human desires and sees it as a weakness.
- Cruel: Demons lack the emotional depth of humans. Sebastian can be very excessively cruel to his opponents and will kill without remorse or mercy. However, he kills by necessity. He is not driven by homicidal urges. He kills for fun, when angry and wrathful, to complete a mission, and to torture if necessary. With no need for material possessions and without any kind of laws, they only have their aesthetics to live by. As long as he's contracted to Ciel, Sebastian lives by "a butler's aesthetics" or Sebastian preference code of conduct, and he takes these 100% seriously - meaning that until their contract ends, he is effectively the butler he masquerades as it's hard to tell what is his true motives on his butler person and his demon persona.
- Murderous: He's a demon, but the contract serves as a leash for his thirst for killing. It was remarked he's a beast on a leash with terrifying destructive demonic strength and powers. However, with the contract, Sebastian may have willingly entered one with Ciel as part of the game and agreement in his soul binding contract. He won't kill unless he was ordered to do so, so much of the reasoning is based on necessity and Ciel's will.
- Elite trash: Serving the rich, the royalty, and aristocratic class is a part of his aesthetic, looking down the poor often in a pitiful way. He helps Ciel's in his charities, but he finds the poor of society's bottom ladder very hopeless and pathetic
- Beast mode and doing inhumane things: Genuinely lacks a sense of shame and moral sense. Being a demon, he actually finds some fun doing immoral deeds basing on Ciel's orders and for the game of it.
- Humans and their emotions: Sebastian's weakness. Having lived a long dull life as a demon through each era, he finds humanity fascinating. He is in wonder of their knowledge, their inventions, their technology and can learn everything quickly on the subject and how to use to it, and to a degree respects their intricacies, their behavior, and their culture. Human virtue like love, compassion, charity and kindness he seems largely indifferent and does not compute, but he will attempt to try to understand because everything is fair and humans emotions are easy to manipulate if it the ends justify the means for his own benefit, and for the most part he is curious what drives their motives and thinks he understands them (he doesn't)
- Whimsical: Being part of English society and master their literature, education, and culture he has a playful whimsical side to him as it's shown when he plays the part as the White Rabbit in Ciel in Wonderland, often making remarks of irony and sarcasm and taunting his opponents on the weakness and strength of others.
- Teacher: Despite being a demon with a strict sense of aesthetics, hiding his real persona and motives from others, he has a professor's side. He's particularly can be quite a harsh teacher and mentor, but it seems as a professor, he's thoughtful to his students.

Super Strength/Speed/Sense/intelligence etc.: Sebastian has super strength that he can pull a horse carriage by himself, crushed a car with his foot, run for long miles without tiring, pick up statues and throw over long distances like it was a football, stopped a speeding train with a single hand, ripped and bend steel in half. As for speed, he can clean the entire kitchen, parlor or a laundry room in record time. He can learn a new skill and knowledge quickly from being a professor to being a doctor. However, it's the knowledge that matches the Victorian-Edwardian era times.
Fight style/Marital Arts: Sebastian fighting style is throwing silverware of knives and forks with deadly accuracy. That one time he helped Ciel throws knives in the Circus Ark to display his competence at knives throwing, Sebastian helped him "cheat" by throwing rocks at the knives, so that each throw hits the bullseye. He can take down an entire Italian mob with knives and forks. Sebastian in particular, deploy martial arts. He deploys fists, acrobatic evasions, and powerhouse kicks.
Super creativity in little time: He can art and sculptures out of chocolate in record speed. In the anime, ice sculptures.
Matter Creation: This was shown in the manga and was handwaved without much explanation. When Sebastian arrived at the ruined manor for the first time after Ciel's rescue, he is capable of fixing the mansion in a blink of his eyes using his powers and conjured up a delicious dinner in a matter of minutes. However, with one flaw at that time: He did so with the only imperfections being in terms of his lack of knowledge such as the lack of taste of food, much to Ciel's dismay, it tasted heavy and awful. After Ciel witnessed this demon's power, in particular, he taught the demon to cook the right away to make himself look normal.
Shadows: The use of shadows and dark to consume a person in complete darkness if he wishes.
Manipulation: As a demon, he is able to manipulate and deceive the weak minds and hearts of humans using Demon whisper, boding and beckoning them to his will, manipulating them to do or confess information and secrets he needs.
Shape-shifter: For cosmetic reasons. He can adjust his hair, clothes, nails and etc as a perfect disguise. The butler "outfit" he wears is not his true form. His true "ugly" form was vaguely shown as an eldritch horror beast of a formless shadow with red multiple eyes, rows of serrated teeth, long sharp nails and wisps of demonic darkness coming off of his body, and wearing high heel stiletto hooker boots.
Immortality/self-healing: Sebastian seems to heal from his injuries fairly quickly, though it wasn't written whether he's susceptible to death. Demons live long immortal lives. He was able to survive freezing waters, endure heavy severe injuries and is able to fight for hours, heal instantly and will away wound, inhale deadly mustard gas. Human weapons seem to have no effect on him. A Grim Reaper/Shinigami's weapon, which seems to be able to deal with heavy damage, but he is able to survive that.
Butlering/Multitasking multiple jobs/ Silver service: Sebastian as a demon to the core is being a servant for domestic service. His skills as a senior head butler mean he can and by necessity handle many jobs at once in the household, so his job is really a lot of management. His servants who work for him, the gardener, the maid, and the chef are incompetent at the jobs they do. Silver Service, meaning he is able to tell the difference between a soup spoon from a desert spoon, or using the different utilities in the kitchen.
Gourmet chef: Despite having no sense of taste, Sebastian is a Michelin star chef.

Sebastian's demonic powers will be significantly depowered in terms of that he'll be slower and less nimble, less efficient with multitasking such as handling one or two jobs at a time, slower to physically heal from a fight, and significantly less physical strength, but enough strength to take out a zombie in case of a zombie apocalypse should occur and if given a proper weapon. However, he will still be a sufferable, obnoxious know-it-all in skills and knowledge, and being good at everything he does as the intelligence is all there.

He is trapped here like everyone else, and he's in a different world.

The closest feeling he could describe as a demon is a cross of worry, fussiness, and frustration. Not one to admit defeat, he probably needs help from the citizens of this world.
