genessia
On Genessia, he stayed with a version of Ciel for a few months, and when Ciel left, Sebastian is alone and lonely. The metaphysical bond they shared in a contract isn't severed, and each day Sebastian grew bored and lonely from the separation. In his boredom, he raised Ciel's candy company that was left behind and made a retail store out of it. The company grew and made two chains of his brand name in two cities, and grew exceededly rich. The business was fun to managed and for a while he becomes a candy tycoon (as being a candy maker was his source of income at the time). During his stay, his life in Genessia is a waiting game for him, as he has no Master to serve at that time. He lived in a highly technological advanced city where he learned how to use computers, know what's a robot is, drive a computerized car, and maintained a high-tech apartment as well as the manor.
Sebastian sacrificed his ability to multitask to open up a portal is a replica of the Phantomhive Manor for Ciel to make it a home for them, but on the day it was opened was the day Ciel left the world. For a few months, he lives in there reclusively, only sharing with his pet cats, though he seldom invites company over for afternoon tea. Eventually, one day he left the world, which was a complete relief for him, and returned to his homeworld. He left behind his entire fortune from the car to the savings in the bank and the keys to the replica Phantomhive Mansion to Ms.Grell, the city guardian at that time.
The only key points is that Sebastian learns modern day life and operate modern conveniences. He learns how to make artisan candy, run a business, home repair, carpentry, learns to use technology such as a smartphone, computers and drive a high tech car, and he has a good opinion of Ms. Grell. As for his sacrifice, the world took his ability to multitask...it simply means he has to do domestic tasks and chores at a human speed, one job at a time, but he's slowly regaining his ability back through practice and repetition.
Otherwise, it was a mundane slice of life, but significant to his development (and he realized he really misses his Young Master).
AU part
The fandom made up many theories about his divine origin from a prince of Hell listed in the Book Lesser Key of Solomon to fallen angel. Some believed his true name is Malphas while others believed it's Mephistopheles from the story of Faust. This Sebastian will tell you that names do not matter in the end, other than the one that is given to him.
I usually roleplay Sebastian as an unnamed generic fallen angel who fought side by side with seraphim Lucifer as portrayed in the book, Milton's Paradise Lost. This Sebastian, he was a nameless, formless angel of no particular rank. After the Holy War against God and his angels were fought, Sebastian fell along with his brethren. Over the millennia passed, he earned the rank equivalent to a knight and noble aristocrat that was almost likened to a prince in hell. None of those rank will have any meaning as Sebastian the butler will simply say he's just one hell of a butler.
Sebastian loyalty to Lucifer is absolute and he admired him as the king and he truly believed in his ideologies. In a way, he is his patron and personal deity. He made no regrets during the rebellion. Though nowadays, he operates his soul contracting business on his own just like his demonic brothers and sisters as a normal day to day life, and his relationship with Lucifer is at best like a distant subject to his King.
The only motive to gather souls is not devouring them or eat them, but to gain more companions to take home to his realm in the end. Sebastian will not speak anything about his origin, but he may educate Ciel the destination of his soul if asked, but he'll be vague, using metaphors pertaining to it. Motive-wise, he only wished is trained Ciel to be stronger, as it was rare of him to take on someone so physically weak, but he admired Ciel's heart and mind greatly. Sebastian admired Ciel's passion and despair in his soul so greatly, as his past is a traumatic and bitter one. During the ritual, when he appeared to Ciel, he was drawn to his plea and prayer of despair. A part of Sebastian truly wanted to make his wish come true and fulfilled that prayer.
Personality-wise, this Sebastian is kinder and gentler on his chosen soul. While he doesn't understand what is it that makes humans so human, he's really patient with humanity and finds their corrupted side fascinating, and if anything would give a nudge or a push. He cannot control a person's free-will, but like a devil, he can nudge, suggest, persuade, manipulate a person toward the desired path. However, his motives is a selfish one, as he will always pick Ciel's decision and play by his rules until the very end, and he will protect Ciel and his family members and selected friends. He recognized Ciel is not a child, but a master worthy of his caliber and powers despite his young age. For Sebastian, it's a game of consciousness, morality, and winning Ciel's soul is an important asset to his homeland, and it's more of a philosophical relationship and ideas between good and evil, heaven and hell.
Other AU things
- I'm going to pretend Kuroshitsuji II didn't happen (And I'm sorry as I do play an au!Claude too from time to time...)
- I'm going to pretend that nun event in Kuroshitsuji I anime didn't happen (that doesn't make any sense)
- I'm going to pretend that event with Beast in Kuroshitsuji manga didn't happen (we could say he hynoptize her to get the information he wants and that's the end of it)
- Eating human food and drinks does have flavor, energy substance, and help him sustain his physical human body
- Heavy influences from Milton's Paradise Lost and Good Omens
- Besides silverware as use for projectile weapons, he can also wield guns and is ambidextrous, meaning he wields two pistols on both hands and his shots are accurate

genessia, he watches a lot of cinema/theatre, in particular, a lot of Masterpiece movies, Shakespeare, and James Bond movies, so he does those in his spare time as well as housing stray felines in his home
